DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Sabotage, also released as The Woman Alone, is a 1936 British thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It is based on Joseph Conrad's novel The Secret Agent. It should not be confused with Hitchcock's film Secret Agent released the same year, or his 1942 film Saboteur. Karl Verloc (Oscar Homolka), the owner of a cinema, is part of a gang of terrorists from an unnamed European country who are planning a series of attacks in London. Their exact motives are not made clear. Scotland Yard suspects Verloc's involvement in the plot and assigns Detective Sergeant Ted Spencer (John Loder) to investigate Verloc, initially under cover. Spencer conducts the investigation posing as a greengrocer's helper, selling fruit and vegetables in a shop right next to the cinema. Verloc's young and beautiful wife (Sylvia Sidney) believes that her husband is a good man because he has been kind to her and her little brother, Stevie (Desmond Tester), who lives with them. However, gradually she comes to suspect that her husband may be one of the people behind the terrorist attacks. The final straw comes when her little brother is killed, along with many other people, when a bus explodes. The boy had thought that he was simply delivering a film canister, but he was unknowingly carrying a time bomb for Verloc, to be detonated in the London Underground station under Piccadilly Circus. The boy had become distracted along the way, which had delayed his delivery ...

Lighting affects health. Studies show that full spectrum natural lighting is the best for health and well-being. Here are the details of some of the most commonly asked questions related to electric lighting and human health.

Photobiology is the scientific study of the effect of light on the human body. One of the most popular studies in recent years has focused on using electric light to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. SAD is a winter depression caused by less exposure to light because of the shorter winter days. Scientists discovered that light stimulates the body to suppress the release of depression-causing hormones and enzymes. Most treatments use ordinary fluorescent lighting, though full spectrum or natural light lamps are presently recommended. Phototherapy is also commonly used to treat jaundiced infants. Light also affects our biological rhythms. Light therapy is also being used to help shift workers adjust to their new sleep patterns or to help long distance travelers adjust to jet lag.

Electromagnetic Field Radiation or EMF is increasingly in the news because of theories it can cause health problems. Does lighting generate dangerous EM? Most publicized cases cite the common 60Hz magnetic field. As you know, most household appliances, office equipment and lighting use this frequency. The distance between a worker and the magnetic field is a significant parameter. Most are not very close to lights since the lights are in the ceiling.

Studies related to autism and some other kinds of neurological disorders have revealed connections to this kind of flickering effect. For this reason, some studies are advocating the use of natural full spectrum lighting for schools where autistic students are in attendance.

As of BB Salon stylist Brenda Betalia (Savannah, Georgia) is working on a suit tailored, thinks first of his vision with Oct-Lites in her living room.
"You would think that with the economy the way it is now the costume dress-what would a company that was struggling," says Betalia, "but it is not." Betalia explained that since the economy began to slow down, more and more customers who buy only in the designer label shops are now used forher to customize dresses and suits for them.  "Many of my customers are looking for a local American dressmaker to get the tailored custom look they want without worrying about haute couture prices.  Some actually have told me that they are now only going to buy American." 

The fact is that custom dressmaking and tailoring is becoming a less and less common profession.  Fewer people are taking up the trade, so that the few custom dressmakers who are left are getting the lion's share of the work.  The trend in Betalia's case is for a local dressmaker to customize a new outfit that is beautifully made. The reasons are the new patriotism for buying American, and the desire for the bride to save money as well. 
Betalia explained, "I just finished a wedding dress that was so beautiful!  I had my assistant sew in two thousand tiny crystals and we used the most expensive silks; it had a nine-foot train, and still the gown came to only five thousand dollars.  That same dress, if purchased at a high end wedding retailer or department store, would have been at least ten grand. The bride paid for all the bridesmaids' dresses and the groomsmen's tuxedoes with the money she saved using my studio."

While work is plentiful, indeed, Betalia has to turn down some orders these days. She is aware that the long hours she spends working in the salon can put strain on her eyes and the vision of her assistants.  "I use Ott-Lites for the salon," says Betalia.  "One day I saw my cousin, who does a lot of my beadwork, straining her eyes, and I said, 'come on let's go get us some decent lights for the job'."  That day Betalia outfitted BB's salon with desk and sewing lamps by Ott-Lite and with Ott-Lite Full Spectrum 3X Magnifier and Ott-Lite Truecolor Task Light.
